The Fiji Police Force have dedicated this year's Diwali celebrations held at the Fiji Police Headquarters to the late Police Constable Siuta Niumataiwalu.
In his message, Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says it has been a sad and dark week for the institution since the tragic passing of their colleague.
The commissioner says while many expressed anger and frustration over the loss of a young life, officers must remain focused on their oath to protect and serve.
Qiliho adds many of them were angry and could not accept the news of why a young and promising life was taken away so early, however, he says we must find a place in our hearts and remember the meaning of Diwali in that light will always triumph over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.
The Commissioner of Police urged the officers to appreciate life and to value the contributions of their fellow comrades.
He adds conveying Diwali greetings to near and dear ones with Happy Diwali messages is also an important aspect of Diwali, and as we reflect on a week that has been full of unexpected turn of events, he asked Officers that they not wait for a special occasion to express your appreciation to a comrade for their hard work as it could be your only opportunity to do so.
