Former lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef has been released on bail by Chief Magistrate, Usaia Ratuvili.

This is Lateef's latest case where he was allegedly found with 0.0063 grams of methamphetamine at his Nailuva home on the 14th of August this year.

Chief Magistrate Ratuvili has granted Lateef bail on a $5,000 cash bail bond and he has to report to Raiwaqa Police Station daily.

In his submission for bail, Lateef had told the Suva Magistrates Court that the breach of bail charge was not put to him properly, Police had not conducted the caution interview with him and this charge was just put to him while he was appearing in court for another matter.

While delivering the ruling, Chief Magistrate Ratuvili said the court finds that Lateef has demonstrated a change in circumstances sufficient to grant bail. He says if Lateef reoffends and appears in court on another charge then his bail will be revoked and he will be remanded, the bail sum forfeited and the sureties will be summoned to show cause why they should not forfeit the bail bond.

The case has been adjourned to the 25th of next month and the trial date has been set for 6th to 8th January 2020.

Meanwhile, in another case earlier today, Lateef appeared in the Suva High Court in relation to his constitutional redress matter.

Lateef told the Suva High Court that he is in remand for 10 weeks for something he has not done.

The Attorney General's Chambers has advised the court that they intend to file the strike out application.

The Suva High Court has given them time till the 6th of next month to file the application.
