It was an emotional moment for residents of Golden Age Home in Samabula when they were given gifts and provided with entertainment from various religious organisations during Diwali celebrations at the Home.
Neelum Kumar who is the Senior Welfare Officer at the Golden Age Home says they want to make sure the residents are not missing anything even if they are not with their families.
Kumar says preparation for the event would not have been successful without the contribution of the staff and the Ministry of Social Welfare in partnership with Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, Digicel Fiji and the Desi Dance Dhamaka.
She says the staff of Golden Age Home contributed to the purchasing of the residents' outfits because they feel these senior citizens have already done their part in the dedication and hard work of what Fiji is today.
Kumar is urging the relatives of the residents to take some responsibility and visit because the residents miss their family.
Kumar says on Diwali night on Sunday the residents will be having an excursion along the Suva and Nausori corridor to watch the Diwali lights in the homes in the area and this will be sponsored by Central Buses Limited.
