England halfback Ben Spencer was at his home in England, feeding his two young kids lunch, when his cell phone rang.
It was England’s media manager out at the Rugby World Cup in Japan and she had a message to relay from head coach Eddie Jones.
Get on a plane to Tokyo.
Spencer says his kids two-and-a-half-year-old Millie and one-and-a-half-year-old Oscar — were “too young to understand, but he told his girlfriend and she was thrilled for him”.
Spencer packed his bags, got a flight and he was selected on the reserves bench for tomorrow's title match against South Africa in Yokohama.
England will take on South Africa in the grand final at 9pm tomorrow
Meanwhile, New Zealand will take on Wales at 9 tonight in the bronze medal final.
