The Medical Services Pacific through its Post Rape Clinics assists an average of 5 survivors of sexual violence a day.

This was revealed by the Country Director of Medical Services Pacific, Ashna Shaleen who says they assist an average of four survivors in their Suva Clinic and 1 or 2 in their Labasa Clinic.

Shaleen says they try to provide holistic care which includes psychological care, medical psycho-social support, medical forensic and access to justice.

She adds they have assisted 915 survivors through their Post Rape Clinic since its establishment in 2012 and saw 12 students in school uniform walk in for assistance on their first day.

She says the youngest victim they have assisted is a 1 year and 7 months old baby while the oldest is a 74-year-old woman.

Shaleen says that their team of educators, medical experts and legal officers are in Koro Island who are raising awareness against violence against women and girls.

Shaleen is also encouraging women to come to their clinics on their open day which will be next Tuesday and Wednesday.
