17 drivers are in police custody for drinking alcohol and driving over the weekend while 414 drivers were also booked for speeding.

More than 1,100 traffic infringement notices were issued over the weekend and these range from speeding, careless driving, driving with an expired license or driving without a license, illegal operation and excessive passengers.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra is once again urging motorists to understand and think of those who have lost their lives through drunk driving, speeding and bad driving behaviour.

Mishra has urged drivers to think of their safety and the safety of other road users.

The current road death toll is 60.
