The Chiefs have ditched co-captains with coach Warren Gatland naming All Blacks loose forward Sam Cane as skipper for 2020.
Cane has been co-captain since 2016 and retains the role but officially as outright skipper.
The 28-year-old has previously led the Hamilton-based side with Aaron Cruden, Charlie Ngatai and Brodie Retallick and he was confirmed as captain on Thursday.
Gatland says Cane is an experienced campaigner who is well respected by the players and management.
The Chiefs will play Blues at 6.05pm in their first Super Rugby match on the 31st of this month.
