The total number of registered voters as of 31st December last year is 644,749 compared to 637,527 registered voters in the 2018 general elections.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says of the total number of registered voters at the end of last year, 50.25% are men and 49.75% are women.

270,098 people are registered in the Central Division, 245,750 people from the Western Division, 95,205 people from the Northern Division, 25,769 people from the Eastern Division while there are 7,927 people registered to vote overseas.

Saneem says that despite not having done the nationwide school registration last year, they have registered 8,880 new voters.

He says they are working on starting registration of students in schools as this allows them to cover students who have just turned 18 years.

Saneem has also noted that there was a low turnout of voters between the age of 18 to 20 years but the complete data is not available and a full investigation will be done to determine why they did not come out to cast their vote.

20,295 people between the age of 18-20 years, 153,262 people between the age of 21-30 years, 151,290 people the age of 31 to 40 years, 115,984 people between the age of 41-50 years, 102,418 people between the age of 51-60 years, 63,659 people between the age of 61-70 years, 29,172 people between the ages of 71-80 years and 8,669 above the age of 81 years are registered to vote.

Saneem also says that the oldest person registered to vote is 108 year old. She is Ema Waqavale of Nadogo Road in Seaqaqa, Vanua Levu.

He adds that voter card 1.0 will expire in June this year and people need to get the new blue voter cards that will have their polling venues to avoid the confusion of where they are supposed to vote.
