Fijian overseas-based players who wish to be part of the Fiji 7s team to the Olympic Games will need to take time to be with the squad during the HSBC World Rugby 7s series this season.

Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber says he has been in contact with some players in European clubs and they have shown interest to be part of the Fiji 7s team to the Tokyo Olympic Games in July.

He says if they can be training with the team and participate in one of the upcoming 7s tournaments, then they can be considered.

He further says that he will not give any position to an overseas player for who the person is since local players have been preparing for the Olympic Games since last year.

He says local players deserve to be part of the squad for the hard work they have been doing.

Fiji is pooled with Argentina, France and South Korea in the Los Angeles 7s.

The Los Angeles 7s will be held on the 1st and 2nd of March.
