Hundreds of people are stuck in traffic between Suva and Lami as the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge is undergoing immediate repair works and only one lane is open for traffic.

According to the Fiji Roads Authority, the approach to the bridge has sunk because of heavy rain last night and a heavy load of vehicles travelling along the road.

They say the bridge needs to be uplifted and their team is currently working on repairing it.

FRA adds this needs to be done immediately or it would damage vehicles on the bridge.

FRA says work is expected to finish later this morning.
