The man who allegedly caused the death of a pet dog in Vatuwaqa over the weekend has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.
42-year-old Isikeli Marau is charged with one count of injuring animals contrary to Section 368 of the Crimes Act.
According to the Crimes Act, a person commits a summary offence if he or she wilfuly and unlawfully kills, maims or wounds any animal or bird capable of being stolen.
It carries a penalty of five years’ imprisonment.
The matter has been adjourned to the 29th of October.
Police also confirm Marau has lodged a counter report as he was allegedly bitten by the dog.
They say investigations are ongoing and he was taken for medical regarding injuries sustained.
