About 90 practicing certificate have been issued to lawyers after the deadline for them to apply for their practitioner’s license has come to end today.
Acting Chief Registrar Ana Rokomoti said her office has been working on the applications.
Under the Legal Practitioners Decree 2009, the Chief Registrar is the only one issuing practicing certificates, before this used to be done by the Fiji Law Society.
Meanwhile, Fiji Law Society President Dor Sami Naidu said some lawyers have already decided that they will not renew their license.
Meanwhile, under the Legal Practitioners Degree 2009, state and DPP lawyers are excluded from applying for practicing certificates.
