The Government of Solomon Islands is expected to take its cue from the reforms being undertaken by Fiji's Public Service Commission to bring about efficiency and reforms in their civil service.
Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission Parmesh Chand today briefed a five member team from the Solomon Islands government led by the Minister for Public Service Douglas Ete.
Chand told the delegation about the roles and functions and the reforms currently being pursued to bring about improvements in efficiencies and consequent reductions in the size and operating expenditure of the civil service.
Chand said the objective of the reforms is to right size the civil service, reduce the wages bill and other related operating costs of the civil service.
Chand added the Solomon Islands delegation were interested in hearing about Fiji's civil service reform given the work they are also pursuing in improving efficiency and service delivery in their own public service.
Solomon Islands Minister for Commerce, Labour and Idustries Elijah Doro Muala said the new government elected in August will always support Fiji as a bilateral partner.
Doro Muala said they will base their reforms on the experiences shared by the PSC in Fiji.
