A regulation that will make dumping of ruined vehicles by roadsides or backyards a crime will be the likely outcome of a review of the Land Transport Authority Act.
The regulation will make it mandatory for a vehicle owner to de-register his/her vehicle, especially derelicts that will no longer be worthy to run on Fiji=s roads.
LTA CEO Naisa Tuinaceva said the vehicle owner must de-register the vehicle and have it properly scrapped adding this is being done because these derelicts are environment hazards with the LTA also looking at updating their records.
Tuinaceva said an estimated 60,000 vehicles comprise derelicts or wrecks and those running without proper registration.
There are 148,000 registered vehicles in the country.
