Blues lock Kurtis Haiu has been given a 65% chance of recovery from primary bone cancer.
Blues doctor Stephen Kara said Haiu had a primary cancer in the rib.
Late last month it was announced that Haui had developed a bone tumour in his rib and would be taking an indefinite break from rugby to have it treated.
The Blues host the Stormers this Friday at 7.35pm.
