Fiji has now filed extradition application papers in Australia for fugitive, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara to be sent back to Fiji to answer to the charges he is facing in court.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed that the papers have already reached the AG's office in Australia.
Fiji is now awaiting a response from the Australian government on whether it will action the extradition application since Fiji and Australia have an extradition treaty in place.
Meanwhile Radio NZ reports that Mara has been granted a six month visa by Australia and he is now planning to stay in Australia for a few more weeks before going to New Zealand.
There is still no development in relation to Fiji's extradition application to the Tongan government.
Nothing has been taken to the Tongan courts in relation to the application.
Instead the Tongan government has granted Ratu Tevita Mara a Tongan passport which he is now using for his international travel.
