A 42-year-old man who stabbed a driver over an affair with his defacto partner will spend the next four years in prison.

The Lautoka High Court heard that on 22nd September 2008, Mohammad Faiyaz came to know about his defacto partners affair with a 24-year-old driver, who was renting in Faiyaz’s home in Lautoka.

On 23rd September, Faiyaz took the driver to buy some grog and on the way back he stabbed the driver who received injuries and died at the hospital the next day.

Faiyaz was initially charged with one count of murder but was reduced to manslaughter when his lawyer informed the court that his client will take a guilty plea on a lesser charge.        

Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan sentenced him to four years imprisonment and will have to serve a minimum term of three years before being eligible for parole.
