Within a period of two hours in Suva, 72 vehicles jumped the traffic red light at Samabula while 45 vehicles jumped the traffic light at Kinoya junction.

This has been revealed in a survey done by Land Transport Authority last week.

LTA said that from this week their enforcement unit will be clamping down drivers who run red traffic lights.

In addition offenders will be charged with infringement notices with a fixed penalty of $40 whereby continuous offenders possibly face losing their licenses.

Speed cameras will be installed in Suva-Nausori and Navua-Serua corridor later this month to record vehicle numbers who speed and run red lights.

Towards the end of this year an additional three speed cameras is expected to be installed in the Western Division.
