The Ba river water level has risen close to the edge of the banks due to continuous heavy rain.

Special Administrator Ba Arun Prasad said the situation will be monitored with the next high tide expected at midnight.

Prasad said parents should also monitor the situation overnight and decide on whether it is safe for the children to go to school.

In Rakiraki, schools in the low lying areas were forced to close early as flood waters started to rise this morning.

In Nadi no reports of flooding have been received however the Irish Crossing at Vunamoli has been washed away.

The heavy rain warning is in force for the whole of Fiji group however based on the intensity, periods of rain and squally thunderstorms are expected over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Savusavu, Northern Lau, Lakeba and Vanuabalavu.

Nadi Duty forecaster said the rest of the Fiji group should expect occasional rain and thunderstorms.

It may lead to flash flooding as rain will be experienced throughout the week.
