A father of a 6-month-old baby who defiled a 12-year-old girl four years ago will spend the next five years behind bars.
During the trial, the court heard that Niraj Prasad committed the offence on the 21st of August 2010.
Suva Magistrate Hettiwattege Somaratne said that the aggravating factors in the case are the age difference and lack of remorse by denying the offence even in the mitigation stage.
The maximum penalty for this crime under the Crimes Decree is life imprisonment.
