Interim Transport Minister Manu Korovulavula
The Interim Minister for Transport Manu Korovulavula has directed the Board of Air Terminal Services to immediately reverse the appointment of Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh as the Board Chairman.
Speaking to Village News this afternoon, Korovulavula said he is concerned about the manner in which Singh was appointed and has called on the ATS Board to reverse its decision as the government holds 51 percent of shares in the company.
Concerns have also been raised by the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions that Singh was appointed Chairman of ATS within days of accepting the 1 percent restoration of the 5% pay cut on behalf of the Confederation of Public Sector Unions.
Rajeshwar Singh earlier told Village News that he was not appointed by the Interim Minister or the interim regime but by the Air Terminal Services Employees Trust, which owns 49% of shares in ATS. Singh also maintains that he was appointed by the Board of the ATS based on integrity and competence and the overall confidence showed by the board of directors.
The ATS Employees Trust also said in a statement that Singh's appointment was unanimously endorsed as he was also the Deputy Chairman of ATS at the time and this was a logical move.
