A big setback for the hosts of the FIFA World Cup as Brazil star forward Neymar has been ruled out of the World Cup after fracturing his vertebra in the closing stages of the 2-1 quarterfinal win over Colombia.
Neymar, who has scored four goals in the tournament, will miss the semifinal against Germany and the final should they progress.
Neymar who is Brazil’s poster boy and one of the world's most marketable players, has been driving his country's bid for a sixth world title with his goals and creative talent.
Looking at the Brazil and Colombia match, Thiago Silva scored for Brail just in the 7th minute of the match while David Luiz got the second goal through a superb free kick in the 69th minute.
James Rodriguez got one back for Colombia though a penalty kick in the 80th minute but it was not enough as the hosts, Brazil held on and has qualified for the semi-finals.
Brazil will play Germany in the semis at 8am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Germany has become the first nation to reach four consecutive FIFA World Cup semi‑finals as Mats Hummels’ early header gave them a 1-nil win over France in the quarter-finals this morning.
The three‑time champions were comfortable victors over a disappointing France.
Tomorrow, Belgium will meet Argentina at 4am followed by Netherlands against Costa Rica at 8am in the last two quarterfinals.
