Finding a place to sleep or sleeping on the pavement next to their produce will now be a thing of the past for some female market vendors in Nadi town.

This comes after Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama opened the Nadi Market Extension Refurbishment and female vendors’ hostel project yesterday.

This is for casual vendors mostly women who came right from the interior of Nadi, Ba, Nadroga and Navosa and could not go back due to unsold produce and high cost of transportation.

Now with the vendors hostel, these women can spend the night comfortably for a reasonable fee inclusive of a tea room, bathroom, toilet facilities and a clean bed to sleep on.

Speaking at the opening Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said all these projects are about empowering our people and encouraging those in the outlying areas to grow more crops and make more handicraft.

The cost of the project is $844,000 with the government giving $804,000 while the Nadi Town Council putting in $40,000.
