Domestic violence is a serious issue which will not be tolerated in Fiji.
That was highlighted by the Minister of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar in a statement.
Akbar says the issue is on top of the national agenda and new measures are currently been taken to intensify efforts in addressing domestic violence and abuse.
The Ministry is currently working on a Memorandum of Understanding that will be signed with the Fiji Police to curb domestic violence in the country.
She is also working closely with the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and other corporate agencies on a campaign to increase awareness.
Meanwhile statistics released by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre during the conduct of their national survey in 2013 showed that 64% of women reported domestic violence cases in the country.
