A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for the manslaughter of a 27-year-old man at a local night club in Suva.
It was highlighted in court that on August 9th, 2013, the accused, Kameli Koroitamana followed university student, Collin Moepara to the restroom where they had a verbal exchange causing the accused to punch the victim.
Moepara fell on the concrete floor and his mouth was bleeding.
The accused tried to revive him but he was unsuccessful.
He died at the CWM Hospital.
High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo says manslaughter is a serious offence and as a bouncer, Koroitamana breached the trust of a patron.
Justice Temo says this sentence is a warning to bouncers in night clubs to use non-violent means in maintaining peace and harmony unless it is a case of self-defense.
Koroitamana is sentenced to seven years imprisonment with a non-parole period of six years.
