27 families of Lalati Village on Beqa Island now do not need to worry about the eroding shoreline after the construction of the seawall.
The construction of the seawall has cost $100,000 which was funded by the government’s Department of Works.
The turaga‑ni‑koro, Wame Cagicaucau says the thought of houses washed out into the sea is always feared by the villagers because seawater always creeps inland during high tide.
Meanwhile, Dakuni village is also facing the same problem.
The construction of the seawall has started with a funding of $30,000 from the government.
