Commerce Commission officers are now monitoring the market and conducting inspections today into next week to ensure compliance by traders during this festive season.
Commission CEO Joel Abraham says they are doing this to ensure that consumers’ rights are protected.
Abraham says sometimes consumers can be enticed by special signs, and their role is to make sure that listed specials are indeed true not artificial special whereby businesses may promote an item to be on discount from their original price and they have to check if the listed original price is correct.
He says that compliance level from businesses is not bad as businesses are cooperating with them but it is their duty to make sure that consumers’ rights are protected.
He also advised the consumers to be careful of expiry dates on products during this festive season.
If you have any complaints, you can call the commission on 8911619 or 3372178.
