For the first time ever, the newly adopted children of Rewa, descendants of Indentured labourers will be bestowed a new i-Taukei identity or I Cavuti by the Province of Rewa.
Turaga na Tui Noco Ratu Isoa Damudamu says giving of an identity or I Cavuti to the newest member of the Noco and Rewa family is essential in sustaining the narrative of the roots, the foundation and sacred protection of this relationship for current and future generations.
Ratu Isoa believes that this has sustained their non discriminatory linkages as i-Taukei, binding them as one people, providing the basis of peaceful relationships and they are extending the same privileges to their new family members.
The district of Noco and the province of Rewa celebrated the birth of a new relationship on Rewa Day last year through the traditional adoption of the descendants of indentured labourers into the Noco and Rewa family, ensuring that they now belong to the sacred relationship boundaries that exists in i-Taukei relationship systems branching from its Noco and Rewa roots.
The Tikina of Noco will be presenting the I Cavuti to the paramount chief of Rewa Na Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa at a traditional ceremony this Friday.
Ro Teimumu will unveil a plaque to declare the name at the function that is expected to be attended by representatives of descendants of indentured labourers from around Fiji, diplomatic corps, NGOs and academics.
The “Vakatoka Yaca ” ceremony will be held at the Ratu Sauvoli School Grounds at Nabudrau Village, Rewa at 10am this Friday.
