Good news for people living in Lautoka as they will soon have a new Aquatic Centre.

Speaking at the Ground Breaking ceremony, Minister for Infrastructure Parveen Bala highlighted that the Aquatic Centre will house an Olympic standard 50 metres by 10 lanes competition pool, a 25 metres by 8 lanes warm up pool and a children’s pool for our young toddlers with relevant facilities.

He says the second phase of the project will see the construction of a modern pavilion which will allow the hosting of international swimming competitions.Bala says the Lautoka City Council is working very closely with FINA to comply with all their requirements to make the new Aquatic Centre a class above the rest locally.

He says the project is estimated to cost around $7.3 million and will take approximately 12 months to be completed.

Bala says he is confident that the construction of the new Aquatic Centre will also see the development of swimming as a sport for the people of Lautoka, the greater Western Division and that we will soon see some champion swimmers from Lautoka.
