The Fiji Taxi Association is against the open taxi base system.
General Secretary Rishi Ram says this is a new concept for Fiji and it will cause a big tug of war between base taxi operators and out base taxi operators.
Ram says they support the current way that the taxis operate.
Ram says once the base is open, people will leave their base in other centres and go to towns and cities.
He says they will have a meeting on Sunday in Nadi to discuss the issue.
He adds that there are about 4000 members in the Association.
We have sought clarifications from the Land Transport Authority on the issue and they will be clarifying some of the issues in the coming days.
