A man who allegedly raped a 12‑year‑old girl in Lakena and then tried to run her over before attempting to rape another girl last week has been remanded in custody by the Nausori Magistrates Court.
The prosecution objected to bail saying that Manasa Ratuloaloa is charged with an indictable offence.
The prosecution also noted that Ratuloaloa may interfere with the victims.
There is no domestic relation between the accused and the victims.
Ratuloaloa also sought the forgiveness of the court today.
Magistrate Gandhi Prasad then told the accused that the offense he is charged with is not reconcilable.
He is charged with one count of abduction of a person under 18 years with the intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying any person, assault with intent to commit rape and rape.
Ratuloaloa is also charged with one count of criminal trespass and one count of assault.
The man had offered the 12-year-old girl a ride and took her to Lakena where he allegedly raped her.
The girl managed to fight off her attacker and freed herself and it is alleged the man then tried to run the victim over with his car.
Late Thursday, the man allegedly tried to lure another girl in a similar way however she managed to fight off the man where Police was then able to get a clear description of the vehicle.
He was arrested near Naduruloulou.
The case has been adjourned to the 12th of next month and will be called at the Nausori Magistrates Court.
