The rape trial of a 31-year-old man charged with a count each of rape and sexual assault started in the Suva High Court this morning.

It is alleged that Ravindra Deo who was a mechanic during the time of the alleged incident raped and indecently assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Samabula on 26th September 2011.

The woman who is now 23-years-old is the only prosecution witness and told the court today that she was in Form 4 during the time of the alleged incident.

The woman said that she had some problems at school and did not go to school on the day of the alleged incident but went to a bush which was near her home.

She told the court that she was in the bush from 7.30am to 5.30pm and did nothing there.

She also stated that she was in her uniform and took jeans, a dress and a top with her.

When asked by the state lawyer, the woman stated that she didn't know why she took all these things.

The woman says that she started to walk towards her home at 5.30pm when Deo called on her mobile phone and threatened her to visit his place.

She told the court that she knew Deo as a friend for six months however they were not having an affair.

The woman said Deo had told her that he will tell her parents that they were having an affair if she did not come to his place.

She stated that she walked for about 20 minutes from the bush to reach Deo's house.

She then told the court that upon reaching the house of the accused, she went in the bedroom as she was scared.

The woman also told the court that Deo started kissing her and also tried to take off her uniform.

She said Deo's behavior was not good and she tried to stop him by pushing him.
