Paying a fine is not the answer to solving the problem of infringements, thus the Land Transport Authority needs to look into the seriousness of infringements.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Transport Parveen Bala while speaking at the Fiji Driving Schools Association AGM in Suva today.

Following concerns and suggestions raised by members of the Fiji Driving School Association on infringements by some driving schools, Bala has raised his own concerns on the lack of commitment by LTA towards it.

Bala says that LTA needs to take reports seriously.

A member of the Fiji Driving School Association had asked the LTA officer present, if they could provide road codes in I-Taukei and Hindi language for those who do not understand the English language and the LTA officer had replied that the codes have already been made in the vernacular languages.

Bala then asked the officer why it has not been released and what are they waiting for.

Bala says LTA needs to act on issues that are raised to them.

Other issues and concerns raised in the AGM was why some private schools were hiring private tutors to take up driving classes.

They further asked if LTA could put up test questions on its website and if the test passing marks could be reviewed.

A member also asked if operating a driving school from a residential area will be considered.

The Minister said that he will personally look into some of this concerns.

Fiji currently has 107 driving schools, 49 are located in the Central division, 14 are in the Northern division and 44 are situated in the Western division.
