Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the opposition’s question on why the 2017 census breakdown based on ethnicity is not released, indicates the opposition’s obsession with ethnicity - and Sayed-Khaiyum also stresses that there has been no aggregation of data based on ethnicity in the latest census.

Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa asked Sayed-Khaiyum to explain why the Fiji Bureau of Statistics cannot release data on ethnicity from the census since the issues on health, education and social welfare are impacted by ethnicity.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says ethnicity is not relevant when it comes to the provision of services.

NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad then said the data based on ethnicity should be released.

Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says Biman Prasad has not highlighted the full details of the UN Special Rapporteur’s report.

He says the data analysis recommended has not been collected.
