Nine election officials today signed their contracts which will allow them to be part of the team that will be conducting this year’s general election.

While speaking at the contract signing ceremony, Elections Office Director Corporate Services, Sanjeshwar Ram says the successful applicants will be receiving a SMS in their mobile phones advising them of the time and venue to sign their contracts.

Ram says that as of yesterday the Elections Office has trained 11,092 applicants as elections officials and 3,708 as Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers.

He says over 1,400 elections officials who have attended the Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers training, have yet to be paid their $75 allowance due to lack of information supplied like bank details.

Ram says there are over 500 elections officials who have not been paid their $45 training allowance due to incorrect details given.

He says that the efforts to contact the applicants have been futile as their moblie phones were diverted.

He says the Elections Office has now successfully allocated 1,312 polling stations and is now in the process of printing contracts and distributing them to the respective divisional offices for signing by the applicants.
