Nadi Weather Office Director Ravin Kumar says that the low pressure system that was to the west of Fiji has been upgraded to a Tropical Disturbance.
Kumar says the Disturbance was located at about 600km west of Nadi at about 3pm today.
He says the Disturbance is further expected to intensify into a Tropical Depression in the next 12 to 24 hours.
It is expected to track to the South-West of Fiji this weekend.
Kumar says the chances of the Disturbance developing into a Cyclone in the next 72 hours is moderate to high.
A flood warning remains in force for the low lying areas and small streams from Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki Town and is now in force low lying areas and small streams from Dreketilailai to Qawa River.
A flood alert remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to major rivers for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Viti Levu and remains in force for the low lying areas and small streams from Nasivi to Tavua Town.
The Nadi Weather Office says that a heavy rain warning remains in force for the whole of Fiji.
The Weather Office says people can expect periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
Localised heavy rain may lead to flooding of low lying areas.
The Nadi Weather Office also says that a strong wind warning is now in force for the land areas of Northern Vanua Levu, Western and Northern Viti Levu that includes Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki and Tailevu, Yasawa, Mamanuca and Lomaiviti group and nearby smaller islands.
