Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Josie has now developed in the Fiji group overnight and is expected to pass near Kadavu later today.
The Cyclone does not have a direct threat on Fiji based on its projected track but people living in Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti should expect strong winds.
These expected strong winds will be indirect effects from the Cyclone and it will be able to bring down some temporary or loose shelters and also damage crops.
Please note that strong winds are likely to begin several hours before the centre passes nearby.
Tropical Cyclone Josie is located 120 kilometres west of Kadavu and it has damaging gale force winds with the average speed of up 75 kilometres per hour and momentary gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
The Weather Office says on this track, the Cyclone centre is expected to be located about 60 kilometres south-southeast of Kadavu at 6pm today.
A strong wind warning is in force for the rest of Fiji.
People should expect continuous rain as a heavy rain warning remains in force for the Fiji group.
Communities living in flood prone and low lying areas should take all necessary precautions and also for those living in landslide-prone areas.
A flood warning is in force for low lying areas and small streams near Semo Village and from Vatutu to Nadi Town.
There is also a flood alert for low lying areas and small streams near to Vatukacevaceva to Rakiraki Town, Toge to Ba Town, Nasivi to Tavua Town and Votualevu to Nadi Town.
