The Vodafone Lost Island Ultra has been postponed for a day and will begin next Wednesday April 4 due to Cyclone Josie.
Organiser Marita Manley said whilst the 200km footrace was meant to be an adventure precautionary measures for safety reasons had to be considered.
Manley says in designing a race on a tropical island, they had built‑in contingency plans for such an occurrence and given the weather this postponement will allow the rivers to drop as well as allowing them to double check markings have not been damaged or removed by TC Josie.
Manley adds that flights to Fiji had also been disrupted and some ultra runners due to the torrential rain but everyone is safe and accounted for and still in high spirits.
Around 50 world famous ultramarathoners from the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, France, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand are part of the starting line up.
The route will take runners from the Suncoast, on the Ra coastline through the interior of Vitilevu and finish on the Coral Coast, near Sigatoka.
