14 people were charged with a total of 26 counts of separate incidents of serious sexual offences in March.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there 19 cases of rape, 2 cases of indecent assault and 5 cases of sexual assault.

Three accused persons charged with rape offences were under the age of 18 years.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 9-year-old cousin and two 14-year-old boys were charged with the rape of an 8-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy in separate incidents.

There were 4 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

In one incident, a 24-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 16-year-old stepsister in the Northern division.

There was one incident of marital rape where a 38-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 38-year-old wife.

The man was also charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm.

A 21-year-old and an 18-year-old were charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy respectively in two separate incidents.

The accused persons and the victims were neighbours.

There was one incident where a 38-year-old female was charged with the rape of her 25‑year old female flatmate in Nadi.

There was one incident where a 26-year-old man was charged with the rape, sexual assault and the abduction of a 12‑year‑old girl.

In another incident, a 23-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a United States national, however this matter was withdrawn due to the inability to locate the victim.

Three cases were withdrawn. One of the cases was discontinued due to a false complaint and the other two were discontinued due to the victims not being located.
