The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has thrashed New Zealand 50-7 in their last pool match to book a quarterfinal clash with Argentina at 2.58pm today.
The Gareth Baber coached side scored eight tries to New Zealand’s one.
Fiji’s tries was scored by Vatemo Ravouvou, Kalione Nasoko, Josua Vakurinabili, Amenoni Nasilasila while Eroni Sau and Alasio Naduva scored two tries each.
Fiji was leading 12-7 at half time with Amanaki Nicole scoring New Zealand’s lone try.
Coach Gareth Baber says they will continue to treat every game as a final.
The second quarterfinal will see South Africa taking on Spain, USA will meet New Zealand in the third quarterfinal while Kenya will take on Scotland in the last quarters.
Fiji had earlier defeated Samoa 31-12 before thrashing Russia 36-14 in their second pool match.
Looking at the other results, Wales beat France 19-7, USA defeated Argentina 31-17, Scotland thumped South Korea 61-7, South Africa beat England 33-15, Spain upset Canada 17-12 to book their place in the main quarters, Australia beat Kenya 28-26 while Samoa beat Russia 28-19.
Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet South Africa or Spain in the semi final and Kenya or USA in the final.
The semifinals will start at 7.41pm tonight while the final will be held at 11pm.
