A former Executive Officer who pleaded guilty to a count of corrupt transactions with agents has been sentenced to one year imprisonment of which six months has been suspended for two years by the Savusavu Magistrates Court.
Nanise Gucake, who was employed at the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management was found to have collected $418.00 from nine people for her own personal use between February and April 2015.
Magistrate Senileba Levaci stated that Gucake’s misdeeds were revealed during an internal revenue audit when it was discovered that she attempted to overwrite the dates and figures on the copies of the receipts to cover her tracks.
Levaci adds that Gucake’s conduct was a serious breach of trust and a message of strong deterrence needs to be given to Communities for such offences.
