The Tongan Thor is refining his game under the eyes of All Blacks great Brad Thorn, with Taniela Tupou determined to be more than just a human wrecking ball.
The 21‑year‑old is under orders from Thorn, the new Queensland Reds coach, to concentrate on his basics as a tighthead prop as he looks to cement a place in the Wallabies set‑up.
Tupou made his test debut against Scotland last November as he was taken as a special project on Australia's end of year tour.
He's keen to get involved in the June test series against Six Nations champions Ireland and hopes his building form with the Reds will help him achieve that.
The Reds will be on bye this week.
Meanwhile the Chiefs will take on the Jaguares at 7.35pm Friday while the Rebels will host the Crusaders at 9.45pm.
