Concerns continue to be raised regarding prank calls that are received through the National Child Helpline.

7,565 prank calls have been recorded to date since the Child Helpline was launched in 2015. 

The main issues reported through the National Child Helpline are child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, gender based violence and issues concerning family welfare.

Permanent Secretary, Dr Josefa Koroivueta says they have provided counseling for many of the genuine callers and these cases have been dealt with by relevant service providers.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has also revealed since the launching of the Child helpline there have been a total of 4,402 genuine Calls to date.

A total of 38,360 calls have been received through the National Child Helpline toll free number 1325.

There were also 9,310 silent calls recorded.
