Time changes constantly and with it so does society, its values, rights and principles.

This was highlighted by the SODELPA Youth member Ben Daveta during their submission to the ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

Daveta says what would have been right centuries ago, might be frowned up today and for these reasons SODELPA Youth supports the provision on protocols as they will allow the Treaty to stay relevant and suitable to the ever-changing global landscape.

He says the impact of the covenant on the work of the SODELPA Youth will be positive and welcomed.

Daveta says their activities revolve around advocacy, awareness and action on issues of concern to the Fijian Youths.

He says that they submit that the decision for Fiji to ratify the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will have a positive impact as it would ensure that existing laws and policies are consistent with the covenant.
