Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber says he does not want to upset the current momentum that the local players have ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in July.
With 17 contracted players all producing great results, Baber believes that overseas based players who have put their hands up for World Cup duties will need to perform if they are to make the final World Cup 7s squad.
Baber had earlier mentioned a few names including Leone Nakarawa, Josua Tuisova, Semi Radradra and Semi Kunatani.
Judging from their recent games, Nakarawa has been on his best form he dominated the Champions Cup eliminations and helping Racing 92 to reach the final this weekend.
Tuisova had just run 90 metres in 10 seconds when he scored a try for Toulon against Pau last weekend while Radradra have increased his tempo in attack and strong defence in the past few games.
Baber says his selection will be based on merit.
The national squad had gone to back to camp yesterday to prepare for the London and Paris 7s next month.
Baber confirmed that Sevuloni Mocenacagi was the only injured player after the Singapore 7s and is expected to be fit again for the last two tournaments.
Fiji is pooled with Argentina, Scotland and New Zealand at the London 7s which will be held on June 2nd to June 4th.
Meanwhile Fiji will play either Japan or Uruguay in their first match of the World Cup 7s on July 21st.
