In recent media reports regarding allegations of misconduct at World Food Programme in Fiji, the World Food Programme stated that this is an internal investigation, in its early stages, into harassment claims made by employees against other staff members.
Resident Coordinator of the UN in Fiji, Osnat Lubrani has said that it will be led by specialist investigators and conducted through the office of World Food Programme’s Inspector General, in line with UN policy.
Lubrani says local authorities are being kept informed as appropriate adding that relevant staff members have been temporarily removed from their duties while the investigation ongoing.
She says administrative measures have been taken to ensure operational continuity under an Officer-in-Charge.
Lubrani has also stated that World Food Programme this year strengthened its policies to stamp out abusive conduct, address the issue of under-reporitng and build a workplace culture that ensures all employees are treated with dignity and respect.
She says that it is for the Word Food Programme to provide any further comments on this case.
The country director of the United Nations World Food Programme office in Fiji, Anthony Freeman and another senior male staff member are being formally investigated over allegations of sexual misconduct.
