A tenant faces a bleak day today as he looks at the rubble that was once a seven bedroom house which was destroyed in a fire early this morning.

The house was situated in High Street, Toorak directly opposite the Fijian Elections Office headquarters.

The fire started at around 11 last night.

Tenant, Krishneel Lal says he has lost everything in the fire and is currently sheltered at St. John’s.

There were 13 people in the house.

He says they were asleep when a flat mate had shouted and alerted them of a fire that had started in the kitchen.

He says he believes the fire started from a gas stove.

Lal does not know what he will do at the moment as everything he owned has been lost.

No one was injured in the incident.

Firefighters managed to control the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
