The Fiji Police Force recorded a total of 24,609 cases of speeding since January till May this year.

This was stated by Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra when highlighting the findings of Operation Tatarovi II.

Mishra says for the month of May, they recorded a total of 8,987 cases of speeding and issued a total of 19,699 traffic infringements.

He adds that 144 people were also arrested last month for drunk and drive.

He says during Operation Tatarovi II, 134 government vehicle drivers were also booked of which five were police officers.

Mishra also highlighted that the road death toll for the month of May stands at seven compared to six for the same period last year and he adds that altogether 27 people have lost their lives due to fatal accidents this year.

Mishra says the operation will continue to ensure that people are safe on the roads.
