The goal is to develop the tourism industry in Fiji to a $2.2 billion industry by 2021.

This was highlighted by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during the official opening of the new Nadi International Airport Terminal last night.

Bainimarama says the first and final impression counts and the first impression our visitors get of Fiji is the Airport which is a symbol of a modern and progressing nation.         

The Prime Minister highlighted that after the renovations they now have a playing area for children as well as a non-denominational prayer room for people visiting the country.

Bainimarama stated this is the first airport in the Pacific to receive Airport carbon accreditation because of the more efficient energy systems which is a sign of Fiji’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions.

He highlighted that in March, Nadi International Airport was recognised and named as one of the worlds most improved airports at the Skytrax 2018 World Airport Awards.

Bainimarama says that last year passenger arrivals at the Nadi International Airport surpassed 2 million and they are on track to record an even larger number this year.

He adds that as the number grows there will be more money coming into Fiji which will create jobs and economic opportunity especially when your working in the tourism industry.

The Prime Minister says that all of that growth and development are part of the vision to build a modern and dynamic 21st century economy.

The $129 million major renovation works were fully funded by Fiji Airports and was functional since April last year however it was officially opened by the Prime Minister yesterday.
