In the next few weeks, schools around the wider Nasinu and Suva areas that have participated in the “Clean School Programme” will be receiving rubbish bins provided by the government in an urgency to keeping schools neat and tidy.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Environment, Parveen Bala while launching the National Environment Day Campaign at the Rishikul Sanatan College.
Hundreds of students from the wider Suva and Nasinu areas turned up at Rishikul and signed pledges to support the campaign.
Bala urged students to refrain from using plastics straws as this is most commonly used by students.
Bala has also signed a partnership with JICA on a Regional Solid Waste Management Project where JICA will work with municipal councils around the country on areas to improve waste management in their areas of service.
